Samson For Council

Larry Samson

My name is Larry Samson and I'm a lifelong resident of Campbell River. My parents moved here in the late 1940’s and I was born in 1954 in the old Our Lady of Lourdes (St Mary’s) Hospital  where City Hall now sits. I attended Cedar Elementary, then Campbell River Junior High and graduated from CARIHI. After graduation I moved to Vancouver to attend post secondary education for a year.

Upon returning to Campbell River I worked in the retail food industry. During that time I became a volunteer with the Campbell River Fire Department. I was fortunate to secure full time employment as a firefighter and served 34 years with the Campbell River Fire Department. I rose to the rank of Fire Chief in 2006 and retired in 2009.

I have been married thirty four years to my wife Shawn; a registered nurse who worked in the Campbell River Hospital for twenty four years and for the last 10 years has been with Yucalta Lodge. We have two children both married to wonderful spouses and are also the proud grandparents of two grandchildren.

It has always been important for me to be involved with the city I live in; I have been a volunteer firefighter, and with St John Ambulance both as a instructor and on the board of directors. In addition I have been involved in all levels of Campbell River Minor hockey including president of the association. I am an Assistant Swim Coach with Campbell River Special Olympics, and have worked in numerous events such as the BC Winter Games and other provincial sporting events. I am also a member of the Greenway Land Trust and the Campbell River Rotary Club – Daybreakers.
